Looking forward to Christmas

Yoxall WI welcomed 4 visitors to their November meeting, which had Ann Brown giving a floral demonstration. Before Ann started, we were informed that a poppy wreath had been laid at the war memorial on behalf of the WI members.

A report was given back to the group about the Blythe Group meeting. It was unanimously decided that the evening had been a great success. Final details were given out about the Beryl Behague  Christmas Friendship Tea and details of our own Christmas party were also finalised.

Ann was then introduced, and we eagerly anticipated her demonstration as the arrangements were to be raffled later. The first was set in a grey concrete urn. Bronze coloured twigs formed the framework and Fatsia leaves used to cover the oasis. Sprigs of hydrangea and tall spikes of purple Astilbe together with cream Alstromeria completed the arrangement.

The  second  arrangement was set in a wire stand with 4 candle holders. Tree ivy and grey feathery Senecio disguised the oasis. A pale pink rose with tight petals called 'Heaven rose'  and pale pink Astrantia gave added interest. Four lime green candles were slotted into the candle holders and the arrangement was complete

Several other interesting arrangements followed. A round willow holder was filled with spruce, silk Hellebores and red berried sprigs. A mirrored vase had pink lilies and glittery hydrangea flowerheads.  Finally, an oasis ring was filled with spruce and dark red roses interspersed with thistle.

All the arrangements demonstrated, together with a few smaller ones, were then used as raffle prizes.

Next month is our Christmas party which is a 'members only' evening. The meeting in January has Stephanie Doorbar talking about 'The Body Shop at Home'. Visitors are very welcome and further information can be obtained from Penny Bailey through the link below. We meet in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm.
