A miracle cure
With lots of ladies on holiday there was still a good turnout to hear Alison Taylor talk about the beneficial properties of products derived from the aloe vera plant. Alison gave us a brief resume of her background - she was a former teacher of Food and Nutrition and Health and Social Care. She loved her 36 year career in teaching but was ready to move on to a different challenge. A colleague suggested the Forever Living Products and she has not looked back!
Most of us will have used a dock leaf to soothe a nettle sting and many other plants were grown in herb gardens and used as various remedies. Aloe vera is a succulent plant species that is only found in cultivation. Extracts from Aloe vera are widely used in the cosmetic and alternative medicine industries. A common remedy for sunburn is aloe gel which has a soothing and cooling effect. Alison described the many beneficial properties of aloe gel. These include cleansing and supporting the digestive system, hydrating the skin, soothing and promoting skin renewal and supporting the immune system and so much more. We were able to sample some of the products which are based on 100% pure aloe vera gel. The aloe plants are harvested from their own plantations and products range from age-defying facial treatments to antioxidant rich drinks. Many of our members were very enthusiastic to try the products.
In this month's business Penny Bailey read highlights from a report received from a local delegate who had attended the NFWI Annual Meeting. She noted that the WI has 23,000 new members and they were reminded of some of the more popular and well-known campaigns. The Keep Britain Tidy slogan was as a result of a WI resolution in 1954. Speakers at the meeting included Bill Turnbull, the newsreader, who spoke on bee-keeping.
Final details were made for the annual picnic outing, when we will be visiting Lincoln Cathedral. Our next meeting is on September 10th at 7.30pm in the Parish hall when Marion Armstrong will speak to us about 'Chasing Paper Skeletons - Genealogy'. Visitors are welcome - contact Penny Bailey through the link at the bottom of the page for further details.
