The Body Shop at Home

Did you know that Yoxall WI has two birthdays? One in January which marks our formation in 1920 and one in June; which celebrates the restart of our meetings after the end of World War 2. We have our birthday party in June when the weather is kinder!

At our first meeting of 2016 resolution forms were filled in and handed to the Secretary, they have to be sent to County Office later in January. There are eight shortlisted resolutions for 2015-16. The resolution topics range from reviving our British fruit heritage, providing free sanitary protection for homeless women to avoiding food waste and addressing food poverty and appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia. A very wide range of topics to consider.

We were given early notice of the May Market date. This will be on Saturday 21st May and is our major fund raiser of the year. So please put this date in your diaries. We have various sales tables, tombola, raffle and delicious homemade cakes.

Details of the Spring Council Meeting and the Homes and Gardens Day were announced by the Outings Secretary. These are very popular events and well known speakers are often booked for them. This year we have Mich Turner of The Little Venice Cake Company and Jonathan Mosley, a NAFAS international demonstrator.

Our speaker this month was Steph Doorbar who gave a talk on The Body Shop at Home. 2016 is a milestone year for The Body Shop as they are celebrating 40 years. The company searches the globe for the finest natural ingredients. The best flowers, fruits, nuts and foliage are used to create precious botanical oils and extracts . Their products are never tested on animals .

Anita Roddick started The Body Shop in 1976 simply to create a livelihood for herself and her two daughters while her husband Gordon was trekking across the Americas. She had no training or experience, but believed that business is not a financial science but all about trading: buying and selling, and creating a product that people will want to pay for.

Steph introduced us to a small range of products by allowing us to try them, and describing their key features. The Body Shop has a range of products containing argan oil, an organic product from Morocco. They include shower gels , body butters and body lotions. Another range of popular products contain strawberry seed oil and hemp seed oil, both of which are Community Fair Traded.

One of the newest ranges is the Drops Of Youth range. The products contain stem cells from plants which have exceptional renewal properties, and include lotions concentrates and creams, all designed to improve the appearance of the skin.

After her demonstration Steph allowed us to purchase some of  the products with a very attractive 30% discount.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 10th February when we will have Kayleigh Brooks talking on the 'Rutland Osprey Project'. Visitors are very welcome and further information can be obtained from Penny Bailey through the link below. We meet in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm.
