The Christmas tree was lit and the tables were set with crackers and wine glasses. Members were arriving in their "party clothes" and looking forward to an enjoyable evening. Our President Penny kept the business to an absolute minimum. We were informed that voting will take part on the resolutions in January, so were encouraged to read about them in the WI magazine. Our glasses were filled and we made a toast to absent friends. An enjoyable meal formed the first part of the evening. The committee provide the main course and desserts were donated by the members. Once again we had a wonderful selection of desserts, ranging from cheesecakes and trifle to meringues and fruit salads.
Our entertainment for the evening was provided by Alan Hopkin, a speaker we had used before. Alan brought along a selection of discs and we played an informal quiz. Choosing music of the 50's and 60's , and with a Christmas theme, we were asked to identify the artistes. There were many trips down memory lane as we shouted out who we thought it was. We were reminded of the wonderful music and voices of Harry Belafonte, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis and Johnny Mathis.
Coffee and chocolates followed while the Christmas raffle was drawn. All the prizes had been donated by members and we had a wonderful selection of wine, toiletries and chocolates to be won. Everyone eagerly anticipated each draw, hoping their number would be selected. About £80 was raised from the raffle which will be donated to a charity called Home Start, based in South Derbyshire. This is a charity which works with families who are experiencing difficulties of various kinds. Volunteers visit families in their own homes and give practical help when needed. One of our members is a volunteer for this very worthwhile charity. Secret Santa presents were distributed next and our evening finished off with everyone linking arms and singing Auld Lang Syne.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday,14th January, when we have Peter Shelley talking on ' Handful of Straw'. We meet in the Parish Hall at 7.30 pm and visitors are very welcome. For further details please contact Penny Bailey through the link below.
